Bettr Coffee Co.
Armed with a degree in agronomy, Don Roger (and his wife Isabel) can talk about coffee for hours, sharing his vast array of technical knowledge and tips with visiting roasters. Their farm is set among rolling hills near the Arenal Nature Reserve and feature mile after mile of picturesque vistas. Their exciting coffee comes to us via Gold Mountain Coffee Growers, a direct trade social enterprise committed to innovation, quality and sustainability that was set up to connect coffee farmers with roasters worldwide.
Don Roger’s farm has a clean water source that supplies the community below with drinking water. A special system of tubing with tiny perforations underneath the groves of trees further prevents pollution by the runoff from coffee washing. This is in line with the best practices championed by Gold Mountain Coffee.
Apart from its commitment to ecologically sound and zero-waste practices, Gold Mountain Coffee also supports the growth and development of the community through a range of sustainable development initiatives. Water is provided to schools far from utility grids, as are textbooks, desks, libraries, and other educational necessities. Free computing classes for youths in the community (with a female attendance of 90%) have also been organised and scholarships as well as medical supplies sponsored. In fact they are constantly looking out for new initiatives based on assessments of current and changing needs in the community.
