About This Coffee

Ronald and Noelia are one of the many farm owners in Las Nubes, a community located on the boundary between Matagalpa and Jinotega in Nicaragua. They grow yellow and red Catuai coffee varietals on their farm, Finca Los Regalos, at elevations of 1,250 to 1,375 masl. The low-lying clouds keep their coffees cool, slowing the maturation process and allowing the beans to absorb more sugars, resulting in complex flavours.

The husband and wife coffee farmer work extremely hard to support their farm and 12 children. They use the benefits of higher market prices to improve their coffee production and processing equipment, as well as their standard of living.

With many of the farms at Las Nubes still off the electric grid, a women-led coop in the community takes additional effort to hand-select the imperfect coffee cherries on raised screens, before sending them to be sun-dried.

This honey-processed coffee is brought to us by our partner producer, Gold Mountain Coffee Growers. A social enterprise that in addition to its own farm (Finca Idealista), works directly with coffee producers including that of Las Nubes, to connect them with roasters abroad. They obtain higher prices for producers while carrying out sustainable development projects in coffee communities; such as free computing classes for girls and microcredit running water in schools.
