Homemade Butter Coffee Cream:
The Perfect Spread for Coffee Lovers

A #BettrFromHome series featuring different ways you can easily use coffee at home
By Danawa Roslee

Sure, you can have the usual strawberry jam or whipped cream to go with your favourite breakfast foods like waffles and toast; these are the classic pairing people go to when they want a hearty meal first thing in the morning. But if you are looking to mix things up (literally and figuratively) for breakfast, adding this butter coffee cream spread to your breakfast of choice will certainly perk you up for the day ahead!

This smooth and creamy spread has a sweet, light flavour that is not too intense, and is reminiscent of a combination of cake frosting and milky latte. The best part is that it is easy to make, perfect for even an inexperienced cook in the kitchen. All you need is a bowl, a mixer, a pot and a few ingredients to make a spread that is perfect over toasts and pastries like scones, croissants, waffles and muffins.

While it is uncommon to eat your coffee, it is this surprising versatility that makes our Cold Brew Concentrate the perfect ingredient for experimenting with coffee at home. This sugar-free cold brew concentrate is rich in flavour and will be strong enough to maintain its taste even when mixed with other ingredients, allowing you to get your creative juices flowing as you incorporate it into new ways. Give this recipe a try and share with us your experience in the comments below!

RECIPE

Butter Coffee Cream

Ready in 20 minutes
8 Servings

Ingredients

20ml heavy cream
42g sugar
30ml oil
20ml cold brew black concentrate
1/8 teaspoon sea salt
64g unsalted butter, softened

Preparation

  1. Combine and cook cream, sugar, oil, cold brew black concentrate and sea salt over low heat. Keep stirring until all solids are dissolved and simmering. Transfer to a jug and let it cool.
  2. Cream butter using a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium speed until it is pale yellow and light. With the motor running, drizzle in the cream mixture slowly. The mixture may appear to be "broken" at this stage - simply increase speed to medium-high and continue to beat until combined and smooth.
  3. Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for a few hours before consumption.

Tips

It can be kept for up to 10 days, and use immediately when taken out of the fridge.
